Skydive in Oceanside – Frequently Asked Questions

Safety Notes:
You must be at least 18 years old and under 230 lbs.
You may not wear your own camera.

What are the hours of operation?

We are open Friday-Sunday, 9am to sunset.

What should I wear?

Temperatures at your jump altitude (13,000 +) can get a bit chilly, but the adrenaline rush you experience will help you forget about that. Wear comfortable clothing and bring layers. Closed toed shoes are an absolute must and lace ups are preferred. Jeans or shorts and a tee shirt work best. Bring a hoodie sweatshirt on cooler days.

How long will it take?

We will make every effort to get you in and out so you can enjoy the rest of your day and all that Oceanside has to offer. However, weather delays can occur and we can neither predict nor prevent them. Plan to spend 1-3 hours at the airport.

What can I expect?

When you arrive at Tsunami Skydivers of Oceanside you will be greeted by our staff and asked to fill out some paperwork. Shortly after that you will meet your instructor who will give you a jump brief that lasts about 10 minutes. He or she will then fit you into a harness and you will walk to the aircraft. The climb to your jump altitude takes about 15 minutes and then it’s show time. You will exit the aircraft and freefall at 120 mph for about one minute. Your instructor will open your parachute at a safe altitude and you will have a 5-7 minute parachute ride to the ground where your instructor will land you safely.

Where do we land?

Unlike other skydiving facilities Tsunami Skydivers of Oceanside’s landing area is right at Oceanside Airport. You will take off and land in the same place, not miles apart.

I’m carrying a little extra “Holiday Weight”….is that a problem?

We will make every effort to accommodate everyone, but safety is our number one concern. We have a weight limit of 230 pounds. Your weight needs to be proportionate to your height and jumps will be made at your instructor’s discretion.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Although we do accept walk-ins we highly recommend making a reservation. This will help us to limit your wait time. Walk-ins are only accommodated if scheduling allows. Please call us if you are thinking about coming down.

Are spectators welcome?

Absolutely. The more the merrier. Have your spectators be prepared to want to jump after they see how much fun you have.

What if the parachute doesn’t open?

We hear this question more than any other. We have you covered. Tsunami Skydivers of Oceanside hand picks its instructors to ensure that they are among the most qualified in the world. On top of that, all of TSO’s top of the line tandem parachute systems include an AAD (automatic activation device). This is a computer that will automatically open your parachute if you reach an unsafe altitude at an unsafe speed. Each parachute system includes two separate canopies. In the event there is any problem with the main parachute, your instructor will deploy the reserve parachute. The reserve is inspected and re-packed (regardless of use) every 180 days by a FAA Certified Parachute Rigger.

How long do I have to wait for my video and still pictures?

The recent advances and availability of video and photograph editing software have led us to the decision to provide you with the raw footage and photos. This will enable you to customize your video/pictures however you choose. You can add any music that you like. Copyright laws prevent us from adding popular songs to your video and selling it to you, but there are no laws preventing you from adding it yourself. The best part is that you will receive the footage the moment you land. You will be given two digital SD cards (the most common kind of digital media). One will contain your video and the other will contain your still photographs. These cards are yours to keep and re-use if you’d like.

Why would I want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane?

Because you can. Tsunami Skydivers of Oceanside has two very important rules….Number one, safety comes first. Number two, have fun!!! We look forward to sharing your first jump experience with you. Then you will have an understanding of the why we love skydiving and the sense of freedom it gives.

I have another question. Who do I ask?

Feel free to call us or stop buy any time we are jumping. Our number is (760) 390-JUMP.
